Hi All,

Is there any other part of a Vostok 2409 or 2414 that can be used to replace a crown wheel click post spring? Even when not under tension they appear to be quite mobile little things. Pain in the derrier if it's necessary to get another movement to replace that.

Asking for a friendĀ šŸ™„

Depending on the diameter you could try making one either from a guitar string on getting the correct size stainless wire as example below.

Edit

Just remembered there's also these that could possibly be modified.

You are a gentleman and a scholar Sir. Thank you. I had wondered if a yoke spring might work (perhaps a little strong), but a collection of springs is an excellent suggestion.Ā

Thank you again Andy for the advice. I got a selection of springs from Cousins and shaped one using a round nose pliers, holding whatever wasn't being manipulated in a pin vise.Ā

The images below show the second one I made. The first (which was a better fit) joined the original orbiting somewhere in the lower stratosphere. In the bottom right corner of the first image is a similar spring to the one that I modified. The second image shows it after it's been trimmed a bit more, and with a screw (not touching the spring) in to hopefully slow it's progress should it decide to fly. Care should be taken when removing said screw lest it, and the spring, make a break for it. Ask me how I know.

All the springs in the pack were a round profile. The original was, I believe, rectangular. The round profile leads to it springing out like Lady Macbeth going to check the guest room in the morning; particularly when a touch of grease is added.Ā

    • I have no experience with this watch, but looking at the pictures from the ebay listing linked above, it looks like the outer metal bezel at the back of the watch may not be part of the case proper.Ā  It looks like the watch and strap are sandwiched together, and an inner case may push out of the rear bezel towards the front of the watch.Ā  A case style similar to the Roamer watches where the crystal, movement and caseback pushed out through the back of an outer bezel, only in reverse - this one may push out towards the front.Ā  To test this, you would need to hold the watch, dial down, supporting the dial side of the watch around the edge of the bezel without touching the bezel itself. Then push down carefully on the inner metal ring you can see at the back of the watch. I’m speculating here, proceed at your own risk. Hopefully someone with hands on experience of these watches can chime in! Best Regards, Mark
    • Thanks, Mark. That's the kind of reassurance many of us wanted to hear! Yes, life is unfortunately unpredictable, and it would be a shame if the many dedicated WRT: ers became stranded if, god forbid, something happened to you and WRT stopped working.
    • The case back is perfectly aligned to the case and has no provisions for a screwing tool. The T-Sport series has snap on backs.
    • For me the text looks too aligned and with no obvious way to grip as a screw back.
    • There’s no indents & there’s no little groove to pry it off anywhere! So I don’t know if it’s screw down or pry off šŸ‘
