Hi, I'm recently retired and have always had great interest in watches - ever since my first Charlie the Tuna watch I got for some tuna can labels and a few dollars in about 1971. I was 11 and fascinated with that watch. Wish I still had it. Anyway, I've been an avid collector for around 7 years, of mostly relatively inexpensive watches and microbrands with a few nicer pieces. I've dabbled in minor repairs: battery replacements, crystal replacements and other things. Recently I've become fascinated by pocket watches and I obtained a few to work on. I also have a real interest in Timex (I know, not easy to work on.) Mostly I'm here to learn and read about other's experiences. I've gathered a few watchmaker's tools over the years so I'm ready to begin! Does anyone have any advice on where to dive in?

P.S. I won't be starting with this one that I got at a church rummage sale. It was just a few dollars. These pictures aren't the greatest, but I'll take better ones later. I think this is an Lumier, maybe from the 1940s. It is not running but seems very clean inside. My thought was to have it repaired/serviced and have a new crystal added. Any info on this watch would be appreciated.

I suggest you let the kid in you who have been curious about watches, get one or  better yet two cheap Seiko, ETA or AS watch/movement  in need of repair, he( the kid will fix the watch for sure), he then  happily thank you.

Show us the watch you think you want to work on and ask for our thoughts.

No shortage of members here who would share their knowledge.

Good luck and welcome to this forum.
