Although I can wind this watch up to run, when I pull the Crown it's very loose and does not engage the hands. Also it will come out completely if pulled.

It looks to me like there's something missing or broken (arrowed).

I think it's just a dimple so push release.

I expect the screw or spring on the dial side are where the fault is.

It is just push to release.

Thank you for the replies. I don't yet have the confidence to attempt further investigation at this stage in my watch repair career, but I will know what to look for once I've practiced on some scrappers.

It's a simple enough place to start as the stem is already loose you can just remove the movement from the case.

Then it's just a case of removing the hands and dial to inspect the keyless works.
