Studding table usage

Hi all,  been away for aome time... 

Long story short, working on an ETA 2879 and the HS broke off even with the Etachron stud... Im.gping to have to re-form the HS etc... In researching  I found a picture of a studding table, brass, with a flip lever.  I'm in possession of o e of those tools and always wandered what it was!!!! Can anyone provide me with instructions or a link for it's usage????  I would prefer to use it if it will make this process any easier..........

Post up a picture of what you have please. I find the studding table a bit gimmicky. I just pin up the hs with the balance installed in the watch, I'm doubting that you can use it with an Etachron system anyway

The studding table simply holds the stud firmly while you pin (or in your case glue) the hairspring. Like Neverenough, I often just use the balance cock, but the stud table is more stable and I do also use one when doing trickier springs, like very small ones or overcoiled springs.

Me 2,  install the balance & glue.

Avoid superglue , as it cures fast you might end up with tilted hairspring coil, but Epoxy five  cures slow around hairspring so you have a chance to level the coil, possibly other adjust if needed.

Once you applied the glue, lay the movement face up, that  be STUD HOLE DOWN,  the reason for this is;  sometimes glue migrates down ،  you surely do not want the glue to drip on hairspring. Don't ask me how I know.

Why not use uv cured glues?

Infinite working time. Instant set.

 I haven't tried UV glue, if it doesn't create stress as glue hardens, then its Ok, such stress might deform a well sorted out coil.

Notice I corrected my mistake, you want hairspring above the stud, so glue wont get on hairspring if it drips down. 

You might not see it dripping, you find that it has several hours later. 

UV would be fine if doesn't create stress as it sets.

Hi all!! Sorry for the delay, it's been an extremely long Mon!! Neverenoughwatches, I suppose I'm the "alter"!!! LOL!!  Many thanks for all the instructions on how to go about this!!   I had initially thought of using lacquer to hold spring, but I see the point of leaving it malleable so to speak to ensure HS is true. ONE LITTLE OOPS!! and now I'm down the "rabbit hole".  Learning experience........  I believe that the studding table predates the etachron system so I will forgo it's use on this repair....  Couldn't find it right off tonight anyway so I'm posting a pic of similar one I found on this forum....  Means it's time to tidy up the office.   Half the room is watch dedicated and the other 1/2 is cartridge reloading (tumbler is in another room of course!!)

Thanks to all for the input and instruction!!! Greatly appreciate!! Will post back progress.  It will however have to wait for another day when I'm not dead tired......

Neverenoughwatches....  thx for the pic grab!!! Mine has been sitting on corner of 2nd bench/storage area and couldn't find the blame thing right off.!!  Man I need to tidy up things!!  Not showing my bench off for a  bit!!!!  I'll get this Hammy sorted and poss one other prior to show and tell!!!

I like tools on my bench, not good if anything pings off, rarely happens these days. Now that it doesn't happen i dont get to dust and that builds up quick so bench clearances have become a necessary weekly routine. Jeez if the missus found out that dusting is one of my forte I'd have less bench time .

I'm with unbout keeping it clean!!! I've just got SOOOOOO much crap, supplies, parts, tools, that they spread to second bench. Now I'm looking to upgrade that to an old "tall" dresser or cabinet.......  Tonight I'm making love to a Bergeron 5555 pressure tester my mentor gave me.  Cleaning it up, reseal if Ness, etc.....just too.much!!! Lol

Ok so I'd be careful with this idea, i think there are other devices specifically designed for that , you just need to find the correct outlets for them
