As I have been officially approaching retirement one of the major tasks has been to downsize and reduce.  Which means  the watch collection and all that comes with it are going to get sold.  Honestly I thing its going to be a very difficult sell but, will give it a try.  Here is the first pass at most of it.  I will only keep  a few  and of course family pieces that have been handed down to me.  Yep, and even my 1990 Miata convertible too!

Aw JerseyMo.....that looks like a lifetime of work and dedication. You're so passionate about Timex and this hobby....how'd you feel about your decision?

Best of look with your retirement.

Are you going to be selling on eBay and what are your thoughts on shipping to the UK?

this is an all or none sale. so shipping to the UK would be one heck of a package!

I will hold on to family pieces and a few of those which  special to me. Such as a 1964  Marlin which is the model that got me started.  My mentors on the old Vintage Timex  Watch forum had the motto of keep them ticking for the next generation.  Given my  nature to want to fix things and understand how they work will lead keep me busy.

Cleaning method varies depending on movement type.  For the basic M24 platform it is ammonia - water rinse - dry - lighter fluid - dry - lubricate.  the WD - 40 is never used to lubricate, rather I use it as a rust remover

That was going to be my next question....if you were leaving the forum. Your Timex knowledge is unrivalled here... someone has a Timex issue or question is directed straight towards you.  So pleased you are staying , losing such a valued member as yourself would leave a big hole in the forum.

Hi Mo, have you already discarded the idea to sell your items one by one? It could give you an income probably for a few years. Of course it is very time consuming to list and sell, maybe this is the thing you are trying to avoid. Enjoy your retirement the best way you can and i wish you many joyful years to come!

It is largely because of you that I have come to appreciate some of the Timex models. This 66 Marlin really is a gem of my collection.20240922_1025412.thumb.jpg.5a3cec299bb7c73a428e6b88cbe37a3e.jpgDSCN61372.thumb.JPG.e08debf618d80cee6fcee3c144ba52aa.JPG

Thats good to hear JerseyMo , I'm sure the forum will be pleased. Retirement can mean lots of new things happening in your life and change of habits, most of us look forward to it....some fear it....the thought of getting old and wondering how they will fill their time. I'm sure you will slide into the role comfortably and find plenty to occupy yourself, good luck with whatever you do.

Hello JerseyMo, I'm new here on this forum and it would appear that you are the Timex guru, so whilst I wish you all the very best in your retirement, I'm glad you're still going to be around on here, I've got a couple of timex's in my to do box, although there's plenty of good stuff from you on this forum that will probably answer my queries, that search feature is a godsend.20241010_105424.thumb.jpg.842be6dfcd4b5f03f57edfc8e1301b38.jpg

As for the WD40, there's a tin on my work bench, nothing beats is for rusted and siezed keyless.

All the best and good luck

I have actually been selling off the collection bit by bit for at least 5 years...

Hey, congratulations! Downsizing is, well, a PITA. We've been through several rounds both before and after I retired, and I've had enough of that. In our current abode, I'm too crowded to function and haven't been able to do much with watches since moving, so, what to do? Build more space! We are just finishing an oversized garage with a a partitioned space in the back, with the whole thing heated and cooled, this should provide enough additional room so that I can get everything set up and get back to work.

Unfortunately, the nice new garage space is not for me. It's for my wife, the artist 🙂  But, I will have storage space for all the stuff that is cluttering up the room that I want to use for watch repair. It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Please, keep us updated on how things are working out. I think there are enough of us around here close to or past retirement age, that sharing experiences could be helpful.

Good Luck!

Exciting times ahead David 🙂 . Ive been planning my new watchroom for 18 months now , the hard bit is becoming motivated enough to actually make a start, having a completely fresh and finished space to work with is the first step that we all want to skip...definitely....definitely not advisable😅, and i have 10 years before i retire. Interesting to see how other folks design and plan, before and after pictures see the space come together, this stage fascinates me.
