You mean, is it a genuine Cartier, or a fake? The photos are not great, but I would guess genuine. Off the shelf movement with no decoration. Plated case?  Nothing special in watchmaking terms, and in poor condition, so not worth much either. Have you handled it yourself, or only seen these photos?

I'd agree, it looks legitimate.

It's got the appropriate rebranded ETA movement that is in a lot of those Cartier models.

The value is down to the name on the watch and very much it's overall condition; it looks like possibly $1000 for an absolutely immaculate, perfect one - but with a rough looking case, a lot less.

I would say its correct but it is at the very low end of Cartier models in other words nothing great and the case is in a very poor condition. Looking at the screws in the movement having damage the movement has not been looked after very well. This all adds to the condition.

This movement was definitely used by Cartier back in the day. I always understood that Cartier only did solid precious metal cases, with the Must collection being sort of an exception with gold plated silver. I have seen one that came to the shop from Cartier, so validated, that was in a plated case. It was a bit of an oddball though, with a Valjoux 23 chronograph. That's the only plated case Cartier I've seen- and it was for the U.S. market.

So for me it's a "maybe". If the dial printing looks impeccable (including the tiny Cartier in the VII number), could be real. In any case, haha, with the case in that condition and not being gold, not a high value piece.

Or possibly a "frankenstein" with the case originally from a different make, plus a Cartier movement & dial? There are quite a few movements about at reasonable prices.

One here that looks built from parts - what looks like a Rotary logo on their version of the movement, plus a Cartier dial and with an unbranded tank case:

I looked into fake Cartiers a couple of years back lots of info out there regarding fakes, my gut feeling is that its not genuine but i am by no means an expert on cartier. The must was their cheaper side of the market in gold plated silver....vermeil,  whether they made any in steel, i cant quite remember. They often have a tiny print of Cartier in the roman numerals that fakers can miss , though any print can be copied. The Cartier Tank was at one point the most forged watch.

I can't believe the number of people bidding on this.

Although saying that, most look like newbies who probably haven't got a clue!!!
