Front loader that won't come out.  Has a ring below the dial that moves a little but ends won't go past stem tube.  Looks like a special tool like snap ring pliers?  Anyone deal with this before?

the ring you talk about is a locking ring it's not supposed to move very much at all. It basically goes in one direction to lock and the other direction to unlock.

On the top your image I put marks that's where you would push in one direction or the other for locking and unlocking.

Then we need to see something that we can't see which is the metal tabs. I put the marks where you can see the openings which have to be in the right place for the tabs on the movement they come out. so if you're lucky you may be a look at with bright lighting as you push on the locking ring one direction or the other and I don't think it has to pass the stem you should be able to see the tabs underneath.

You should be able to turn the dial and movement  as JohnR725 said so you can see the two steel tabs it should then just come out turn it on its side.

Beautiful watch you have.

I turned the locking ring to line up the tabs and with some very carefully prying it popped out.  Thanks everyone.

now that it's out for future reference can you give us a picture of the case without the movement so everybody can see the locking ring.  then a picture of the back side of the movement so people can see the locking tabs on the movement themselves.

probably warped because somebody was trying to pry their movement out not recognizing that its locked in place with the ring.

the problem sometimes with photography and my reading skills are I'm not 100% sure what your case number is? In other words 62? Like maybe 6267 or 6287 which by the way both exist which would be a problem?

So you can go to this website

http://cgi.julesborel.com/

and in the search box enter it in what I have below

ome CS#62

you'll notice that I'm only doing a partial number is I didn't know the rest and that is helpful in that it gives us a nice big list so you have both numbers to pick from. When you click on the number you'll get a list of parts which will give you the crystal number

then somewhere out there will be generic crystals but with a case like this the crystal is key it really is important to have the right crystal in other words I would try to stay with the original mega crystal. You'll notice that the crystal itself as the inside ring that's the other problem with generic crystals it has to be shaped correctly. Then if you can only find a white crystalline other was a white metal ring you can take the ring out of this one providing it hasn't been damaged and swap with the other one so that gives you another option for a crystal

I believe  the case # is LL 6287-1.  Even with your excellent directions my lacking computer skills turned up nothing.  I definitely want an original. Inside ring is in great shape and is a split ring.  Would the Sternkreuz be an original?

Looks like the pz5072 would be an original but for $175 I would like confirmation before buying one.

Would the px5072 be with the gold ring?

Apologies, yes the PX5072 is Gold the PZ5072 is Silver or sometimes listed as without tension ring.

Well new mainspring, crystal, and setting lever spring and she is near perfect.  Now I need a new split stem crown. Old one lost the washer that held the seal in and now everything is falling out.  Can anyone please help me out with a part number?

    • If at all possible, find a service guide for the automatic movements your work on, because the lubrication procedures may have different requirements or rely on oils you would not use in a manual wind train (in addition to the braking grease you mentioned). Some autos like older Seikos do not have a manual wind option, so the procedure of letting down the mainspring without being able to use the crown may require a screwdriver in the ratchet wheel screw and great care. Do you have an auto movement you were planning to start with?
    • I am an amateur, so there's that. I do not get fixated on amplitude, lift angles, and beat error. However, 4.8ms would bug me if it were my watch. But you must judge your own skills to appreciate the possibility of going backward. I suggest, that you button it up let your friend enjoy the watch for now. As your skills progress, come back to it and correct it. I assume that this watch has a fixed hairspring pin. Some modern watches have an adjustable pin along with adjustable regulator. These are trivial to get in beat. I own a valjoux 726 my dad gave me on my 18th birthday (a looooong time ago). I broke the ratchet wheel with an aggressive wind 4 yrs ago. I have been waiting for my skills to progress before doing a service. I am close. Your advice is well placed and I will apply it.
    • I didn’t find any anomaly to the left of the red mark…reflection? this is the balance in its pivot in the inverted assembly. i can’t see any obvious kinks  and the spring is flat as far as I can see. Either the stud screw is missing, or it’s glued in… I don’t know. I’m loathe to fiddle with it. Any further insights? Thanks!
    • Update!  I've dismantled it, cleaned all the glue off, and rebuilt and lubricated the base movement. I'll leave the chrono part for another day. It's running well - great amplitude and keeping time, but it's got a beat error of 4.8ms.    How important is it to correct this? I'm worried that the potential for making things worse having to take the hairspring off and on repeatedly to adjust this. Would anyone here accept it at that?
