Hello. Just introducing myself. Got interested in watchmaking watching online videos. I started making watches from parts using mainly Seiko and Miyota parts. Then I bought a bunch of pocket watches and purchased the course here. I haven’t had too much difficulty learning even though I’m 62, but I’ve been a hobbyist of many kinds up to now which I think helped. My first couple of tear downs had the usual pings of parts, and I’m lucky to have not lost any parts considering my workbench is in dusty concrete basement. I found that practicing picking up screws with tweezers using as little force as possible has pretty stopped that in its tracks. I have worked on about a dozen pocket watch movements up to now, and now doing my first vintage watch rebuild and the reason I finally joined this forum. Nice to meet you all!

I think you forgot the word 'yet'.

Welcome!

LOL. I thought I lost my first part today when I was cleaning the balance jewels on an Elgin pocket watch. Looked everywhere, I heard it hit something. I grabbed a jewel setting screw from another movement, and no sooner did I get it in, and I found it right underneath the holder. I then put that one back in movement I took it from. I do have to admit though I lost a couple of parts including a click and found them a week later looking for other parts. We’ll see how long my luck lasts.
