Identify year and the swiss house that made this movement.

Hi everyone, 

I would like to know the year this pocket watch was produced, and the swiss house that manufactured the movement. It is a Tiffany & Co. Pocket Watch with ref# 124931

From some very quick research, it seems the Swiss Tiffany company shared the Patek Philippe factory at one time, and used their movements.

That serial fits the Patek Philippe movements, and would put it early in the 1905 - 1910 range. Info from here:

The movement does appear to be similar to Patek Philippe ones from circa 1900, as this one:

you'll need to take more of it apart to find out yourself , so unless someone does recognise it. nice pocket watch , lovely finishing on the movement.

it had to be something really high end rob, its beautiful, looks like it has a cracked jewel though,   maybe the light ?

I dont know much about pocket watches, so would love to know what all the gubbins is on the left side,  something fancy going on with the dial ?

Thank you so much for your quick reply. The watch also needs some work. The jewel on the center wheel needs to be replaced, and the minute wheel needs a replacement as well. Cheers!!!

I hope the owner has this insured, if not it should be. If the case is solid gold it is worth a few thousand. It will depend on the K Gold and weight.

Yes, case is 18k Gold. I would love to replace the damaged wheel and jewel. Is there a way I could source those parts?

You should be able to get a replacement jewel from a good supplier, the wheel will have to be made. I don't know how things are in the U S A for things like that.

I'll have to search for someone with lathe experience to replicate the wheel. In your experience, how much would it probably cost for such lathe work?

You need to find out why the teeth of the wheel stripped, if not the same thing could happen to a new wheel.

There are producers in the US qualified and capable of making parts appropriate for a high end watch like this..

Sorry for the question, but, do You know how to replace such jewel? It is rolled one and not pressed like modern jewels. You must not screw up the way the movement looks by deforming the stone seat or leaving any kind of marks there. This is not a movement to learn on.

I would like to second a point already made by a few others, just so it's clear. This looks like a real collector's item, and worth more than perhaps you realise. I advise you not to attempt anything yourself and to get professional help with it.

If you are looking for someone in the U.S. who can make the minute wheel and replace the jewel, Matt Henning is excellent.

 

For more info on the movement, post it over at the NAWCC forum on complicated watches. Rjenkins has narrowed it to a Patek related movement, but someone made the base (LeCoultre, etc.).
