The lathe bug has grabbed me firmly by the danglies ....my first attempt at cutting away the staff hub from the balance wheel using a lathe. Its off a  pocket watch...but a clean cut with no damage to the wheel....took me around 3 minutes....overall I'm chuffed. I throughly believe if you have a lathe and can handle a graver this is the kindest way to treat the balance wheel👍...no more staff punch outs by this chappy. 🙂

Good job we all had to practice in getting it done correctly. Now the bad news there are some staffs that just need punching out and tapping in. 😁

Aw no 😪..........I know....they were disappointingly easy to swap.....thats ok I wont choose watches that have friction fit staffs ever sgain 😁

Welcome to the dark side. You'll find more and more excuses to use your lathe. Mine gets used multiple times a week. Now you better start making tools. Mount a burnishing wheel to it to dress your screwdrivers and gravers. Mount a pivot polisher to it to quickly polish pivots. make a superglue arbor for mounting various parts. Polish screws. The list is endless!

Yey......more tools.....better still...free tools 😄.  That was the main reason for buying the big jobbie, the time for setting it up was well overdue. If it wasn't made of cold cast iron I'd be taking it to bed tonight..😅

To get the most of my adventures into lathe work , Percy has got on board to give me some extra advice. Wow 3 shillings....🤔 15 pence, this sale around cost me considerably more but hopefully worth every penny. I know ideas have moved on but the principles remain the same.....I always look to see how many pages a book has before I buy it, Percy did ok with this one though its only a small book.
