Watch Mainspring Winder set on Temu.

Hello all, 

Hope you are all well.

I've been buying loads of cheap chinese tools off Ali Express and Temu. Nearly got enough to strip down and service a 7S26 Seiko Movement apart from lubricant and Mainspring Winder. I was wondering do y'all think this Mainspring Winder set on Temu is worth a punt at £20ish?

The short description says it's made of Alloy Steel. Is that a problem? 

I only really want it to strip down and service cheap Seiko movements initially.

I'd be grateful for your advice.

Do you know if there's one that's the correct size and direction for the 7S26?

The other question you need to ask is will the old mainspring but reusable?

Generally these cheap chines sets are for specific calibres, none of them seiko based. The quality varies a lot from single use till broken to pretty shit.

I have a full set of those Chinese winders and none of them fit a 7S26.

A better bet is this other Chinese design.

The NH35 model also works for the 7S26 and many other Seiko movements. It's much easier to get the spring on the winding arbor and to release the spring from the arbor after winding.

Mine works fine. It works for the 2824 and 2836 too.

Thanks for the advice guys and sorry for the late reply. I'll mull it over. Maybe I'll go for a more expensive set after all. I'll also make sure it/they fit!

Don’t bother. If you want cheap mainspring winders I’ll sell you mine. They’re all but useless. 
 

personally I think mainspring winding is over played in the various youtube channels. I either buy a new one, hand wind, or occasionally wind if the spring fits one of the few Bergeon winders I have (5-8)

Thanks Bonefixer. I didn't know you could hand wind them. Sounds like a good skill to learn. I'll have a look on you tube, see if I can find a video on it.

I think you're best getting the old mainspring out and then deciding if it's useable.

If not you've 2 option

1) New Mainspring that can be just inserted without a winder

2) Barrel Complete (which isn't much dearer than the GR2377X mainspring).

If you're going to be working on the likes of the 7S26 then try looking for a Bergeon Left Handed No6 winder.

Consider rs-winder https://github.com/vishnu350/rs-mainspring-winder especially if you are equipped for 3D printing. I have a cheap Chinese set that has never yet proved useful but my 3D-printed winders work fine. They work a bit differently from the Chinese clones of the Swiss tool but for me they're just as good and a tiny fraction of the price. There's a fairly long thread about them here:

You might consider an adjustable K&D winder if you find one in good condition.

Has anyone of you ever used this kind of Japanese winder? I once almost bought one but the winder diameters were all rather small (and the bids got too high) so I passed it.
