I want to check the status of the 2 coil contacts in a movement but they are protected by a transparent 'blob' of material. Does this tend to melt if heated gently or is there some other way to remove it without damaging the coil windings ?

Those blobs are usually some sort of epoxy. You don't have to test it directly at the solder joint. You can go up the copper tracks and remove some of the varnish coating and test it there.

Thanks. Yes I'm aware of that approach to testing but at some stage I expect to have to re-attach the wires to the coil's contact pads so wanted to know how to get rid of the 'blobs'.

Movement details, photos and why do you expect to have to re-attach the wires?
