Mounting torsion clock anchor in lathe for burnishing pivots

I know I may be a bit OTT but I don’t like the idea of not being able to burnish the anchor pivots of the torsion clocks I restore, I know nothing moves very quickly and the anchor only rocks back and forth but if I burnish the pivots ( I don’t polish just burnish) it removes another variable because torsion clocks need to be as friction free as possible, anyway after a bit of thought I have found a way to mount them in the lathe.

Very clever piece of work holding.  I like it.

One question - with a Jacot drum there is support under the pivot as you burnish it.  That does not appear to be provided for by this device.   Will that be OK?

That’s the only thing I had thought of but as the burnishing requires speed not pressure I think it will be ok but only time will tell.

The amount of movement that the pallets move I find this is not needed unless roughness has been caused by dirt in the pivot hole. Providing the pivot and pivot hole are smooth and not causing problems. However your way of mounting the pallets is a good way if problems occur.

i like the jacob drum, how did you make that?

I drilled and tapped the centre of the brass so I could add an arbor then drilled a series of holes 3mm in from the edge all the way round starting at .5mm but each hole a bit larger than the previous one , I did it on my little mill with the brass blunted on my smaller rotary table but could be also done by scribbling a circle around the brass and drilling to that line then put in the lathe and turned the brass down to reveal 1/2 the hole.

I see someone on YouTube has made one so Have a look at this video it should help.
