A week ago I messaged Mark again and I have had no reply. I'm sick and tired of this. I want to step down as a Mod and let some other member have a turn. I suggest you Mods try and sort it out. I'm sorry but what else can I do. For Mark to completely ignore my messages is just bloody ignorant.

previously when I wondered if Mark was still around I would check to see when he was last on the message board. So in the past it look like he would show up weekly and then disappeared again. But I find this troubling he was last here September 26, 2024. that is definitely very troubling and unfortunately may explain why you're not getting any communications if?

It's one of the problems of electronic communication of if there's a problem you're really screwed. I don't suppose anyone has marks phone number?

Yep , ive been on the receiving end of that OH ...hence my thread about losing the forum...which imo was total waste of my time and effort 😞.

After reading John's post.....are we on our way out ?

Has Mark actually seen and read your message OH ? I know in the past when I have messaged Mark that he had read it, at the title head it does tell you when a message is read. I was still ignored.

How do I go about that?

Just open the message you sent OH, just below the subject it will tell you which of the recipients have read it and when.

I totally forgot about the Facebook group. I almost never go to Facebook and haven't been there for some time

what I'm finding very troubling here is the moderators should have other ways to communicate than sending messages on this message board. Like telephone number perhaps even a physical address.

you realize you covered all of this before? The problem you're having here it is this is a business. Think about it this way find the nearest physical place that you like to hang out like maybe a pub. Go in and tell them that you're concerned they're going to go out of business and you would like to take it over for the greater good of the public and get back to me on how that turns out. In other words you want to take their business away from them. problem is most people do not take kindly to people meddling in their business affairs.

then thinking about your prior discussion I believe what I said last time is you should work with Mark and find a way to take the business over if and when he would like to give it up. Which also basically means that you would have to become a moderator of this group and understand how everything works for you could run it if Mark wasn't here. As unfortunately message boards to not run themselves they need some help and unfortunately money.

🤔 I'm not quite sure if I understand John, so I will have to ask...do you think someone here wants to take over WRT ? Who ?  For anyone to do that they would have to work with Mark as you suggest... to find a way for them to take over the business but seeing as Mark doesn't respond that is going to be rather difficult. I'm also not really sure about the meddling in people business affairs, I didn't realise that was happening , can you expand on that please.

What did Mark post Tom ? He has a set of posts on repeat about how does your bench look?  what success have you had this week ? Etc etc . Ive been a member of that facebook group for four years, I've never noticed Mark post anything in that time.

Just the weekly standard stuff, it could conceivably be automated, I hadn’t considered that tbh.

In all honestly Tom I wonder how long WRT has left ?

If Mark can't even reply to moderators.....then probably not long.

Man, you're scaring me!

If I was running a sizable business, a successful business...and WRT has 1000s of members...ok not regulars but I consider WRT regulars to be the best on the planet. Knowledgeable,  considerate and respecting of themselves and others. And these members...some of them are patrons....members often recommend and direct beginners to Mark's courses. All of which is money making....if I had a business like that.....I would show my face....at the least once in a while....to at least thank my follows. Wouldn't anyone ? ....Wouldn't you ?

Over the last couple of months Wristwatch Revival has mentioned in videos that they'd agreed with Mark to sell the courses via the Sutcliffe Hanson site, which implies Marshal probably had some contact with Mark. So he's (probably) contactable/alive. You never know what is going on in people's lives though.

I think this is important to consider.

Maybe he has something important/personal to deal with.

He's still paying "our" bills for the forum. So let's just appreciate that for a moment and maybe just wait a bit.

Marshall is co-owner of the site ( sutcliff ) so he must be able to contact Mark regarding sales of the courses. It wouldn't hurt to drop Marshall a message if anyone is worried. It's something I just dont understand, other groups have regular input from their main admin and creators.

Bills might be paid annually, while a payment is in place ...things carry on as normal. My gym, my accountant,  my insurances don't contact me until I owe them money.

I clicked on Marks message you know the envelope and contacted him that way, that is always the way I have done that. As for the facebook link I don't have anything to do with it. I have heard so much about facebook I stay well clear.

Click the 3 lines in the top right hand corner OH , then the envelope next to the bell icon. When the page opens....at the bottom is a "go to inbox" check box....click this and you should see all your messages received , hopefully you have one soon.

the only problem with this is I've discovered that there are some discussion groups that only exist on Facebook. So if you're seeking a certain types of information then you have to go to Facebook.

but yes I do find Facebook is really strange.

    • Hi Mike I did a ships clock a long while ago, not a Hermle though and without getting the beast in my hands to refresh my memory I can’t recall the timing.  This doesn’t help I know but will start the grey matter turning.
    • Of course it will continue Richard.
    • I have stripped and cleaned a Hermle ships clock. It was just oily, no major faults, and I reassembled it, following my photos in reverse order. The time train is fine but the strike train will not play the ships bell strike for half-past. Ships bells play a four hour sequence for the 'watches' and play double 'ding' for the hour and the double dings plus one for the half past (eg half past the second hour is 'ding-ding' 'ding-ding' 'ding'). Sounds complicated but it isn't really. The strike wheel consists of pairs of bumps (for the ding-ding) and no single bumps. There must me some mechanism on the half-past that lifts the strike lever over one of the bumps so only one ding is played. When I get to a half past, it still plays double ding. I have a feeling it is to do with the lever in front of the rack (there is a sprung attachment  on it) and the position of the wheel (to the right) with the two pins that lets that lever fall, but no matter where I place that wheel I cannot get a single ding at half past! Please can someone help with advice on positioning so I can fix this? BTW Happy Easter 🐣
    • No it's not 52. I had looked at the Pocket Watch lift angles thread, which lists Elgin 6s as something really high like 62° but visually that is not at all what this watch is doing. I think 42° is more correct and that's where my machine is setup. The watch has a million problems but I have made solid progress. Impulse jewel replaced. Hairspring didn't match the balance (which also doesn't match the serial) but I got it down into range this weekend with 8 or 10 huge timing washers. Replaced the mainspring, balance and train are nice and free. At this point it is running consistently and in beat at about 160°, the third wheel has a bend that sends the timegrapher on a little roller coaster every 8 minutes or so. Remaining amplitude problems may be down to the escapement. The banking pins were way out and it didn't run at all before I started. It has one of the old brass escape wheels rather than steel, and I assume the faces its teeth are probably worn or scored in a way I can't yet fix (or see without a microscope). I know this watch is not going to run above 250° but I am going to keep trying to get above 200. But the best part about this watch? Some unscrupulous person stamped "21 JEWELS" on the train bridge sometime in the past, right on top of the Damascening. It's a 15 jewel movement.
    • I think it would rather be the blast of high current drain that would do the damage. But if used occasionally to maybe fix a mainspring or do dial feet it might be worth trying especially if the mainspring or a replacement couldn’t be found.    Tom
