Aren't we all strange in our own little way

strange in that if you go to Facebook occasionally you're overwhelmed with lots of stuff. In the program that I used to get my emails does not allow me to click on the links to go to the Facebook when my friends post things. So I have to go to Firefox to look at Facebook which is why I typically don't look at Facebook because that's typically not the browser I use. So when I go there I am overwhelmed with all sorts of stuff and I've noticed that occasionally I can never find what my friends are posted and I give up.

even sometimes the groups I joined I can't find by groups they should be in a category but they're not there and then I have to do a search and when I find my group and go there I find I'm subscribed but yet it's not in my group list?

Then a course they make all these videos suggestions that I should watch him another nice videos I came to see what's going on with my friends or go look at a group discussion and I'm overwhelmed with all this other stuff

plus of course there's always incredibly good deals on stuff to purchase really really good deal. Outstandingly good deals for somebody to make lots of money off the stupid people who attempt to purchase the deals that are really that good at all

Still nothing from Mark. I sure as hell want to know what is going on. I'm really pissed off.

I went to Facebook to see if he's still there and he is it claims he was there 18 hours ago. Then it looks like there's another person. I snipped out an image so the first person isn't as active as Mark on Facebook he was last there January 26.

So I wonder if this person is a member of this group?

Coincidence OH,  I was thinking about this yesterday and was going to ask today if you had heard anything.

I did see Tom's requested asking Mark to contact you in that facebook group. I know of a few there including Mike that owns My Retro Watches. Think I will ask Mike if he knows anything .

Che is a knowledgable often active contributer in that group . Someone should have some idea for Mark's silence.

I know it's been awhile since someone posted here but I did notice that Marshall has the watchfix videos for sale on Sutcliffehansen. Maybe they have already made the changeover?

I’m not sure what you mean by the changeover? Marshall has said on his videos that he has an agreement to sell Marks courses, nothing else was mentioned. Marshall is also a member here but hasn’t posted in a long time. Many popular and well known YouTubers have been or still are members here but rarely contribute.

Still, it is fair to wonder about that arrangement since the economics of selling one digital thing in two places are unusual (rather than some kind of referral program), unless it is part of a quiet "retirement." Which maybe it is, and that's valid.

I think it is bloody disgusting that he has never answered any of my massages and he never bothers with any of us. Us appointed Mods are left to hold the fort. It is out of our control if anything goes wrong with this forum. I wonder what would happen if us Mods just packed it in. I do not like being taken for granted.

I almost asked you in another thread yesterday OH if you had heard from Mark. Something seems quite wrong, tbh I wouldn't be surprised if the forum went pop in the very near future. I honestly think we need to start making provisions for it.   @tomh207 Tom what you thinking matey ?

I think it seems fair to discuss it openly now , considering the circumstances and the feedback from OH.

Agree this has gone on too long. We need to do something and the sooner the better. Many time I have thought about just stopping posting but I do not like to let anyone down.

Mark posted on Facebook only a month ago during a cycling event he was at. That was way after you started messaging him OH

So are there any other forums that people already use?

I know I've looked at a few and never really got on with a lot of the members
as they were more interested in how much they'd spent on their latest Rolex.

A couple of Facebook groups that I am a member of Andy inc. Mark's,  but not as regularly as here , as our close knit group I have a lot of respect for and consider some as friends that I could confide in if necessary.

I'll second that.  If anyone is ever in Leeds/ Rothwell  I would be more than happy for a visit.

Worked a lot in the past around Leeds/Bradford but probably 20 years now since I've been over their.

If you go to the Facebook group you can see when he was last visiting which was just a couple of days ago

Did not check to see if he posted anything but at least he was there.

Yes changeover seems ominous?

If you look at the actual page and let me quote something from their it appears to be it's basically just a product as they're trying to promote all the products they can to promote hobbyists and watch repair

Yes there are other watch repair discussions out there but typically they just a tiny section of some bigger group. In other words like somebody mentioned there's a Rolex discussion group with a watch repair section. But if you're really curious you can go to your favorite search engine online and do a search and they pop up. Or you might even get a link like this that lists a bunch of them

https://forums.feedspot.com/watch_repair_forums/

The problem is to find discussions in other groups can be challenging. Then we have groups on other platforms and some of those become even harder to find. War we have platforms like the group below it's a email-based group

Yes clocks that's definitely a problem. Quick search reveals not very much. With the same results being a problem in that a lot of discussions are buried in other groups's little come up on the search but there was one that Coming up for clock repair and a few other things

Read the room people......

Mark is not talking to moderators, and not even commenting on discussions like this one - it has his name on it - no excuses. I agree with @Neverenoughwatches that it is only a matter of time before this site just stops. If Mark lacks the motivation to visit and interact with the site, why would he be motivated to keep paying the bills?

There are several options to set up discussion boards for little or no money that would closely match this one and I played with this a while ago as a 'proof of concept', but there was little interest from the group in looking into this, actually this is an understatement - people were actually hostile to the concept, even sharing a common email list was deemed to be an act of treason, so I stopped working on it.

I could look again, but only if there was genuine interest from the members and I wasn't outcast as some sort of heroic.

👍 I don't think I could have worded it better myself Scott. Maybe there is a reason for Mark's disinterest in the forum, maybe he does have other issues to deal with in his personal life, maybe he doesn't even know what goes on here. But if he doesn't visit he wont know, I seem to remember Tom left word for someone in his Facebook group to contact him. I'm quite happy to message Mark's profile , no skin off my nose, I feel quite confident he considers me as a troublemaker anyway after last time. When I think I upset folk I like to know why that is, so I ask.  Anyone else can make that same move to discover why they are unpopular with a particular person or persons, but they have to care enough to ask why. Someone just ask and I will message Mark, It honestly doesn't bother me, if you wanna know you wanna know, besides I can't say I have a great deal of trust now, and felt fobbed off with no assurances last time we had a reply from him. I would hate to lose contact here and with many of the members, and such a shame lf all the information stored here was lost. What will be will be.

If someone were to set up a new site intended purely as a means of carrying this over in light of current events, would the mods agree to continue/resume on the new site? Maybe even help let people know what's going on? I'm a software engineer by day, and could probably swing the setup over a weekend, but time is extremely limited for me right now (two small kids, major home repairs ongoing, a startup I'm trying to get off the ground, etc.).
