I have heard so much about Facebook I don't have anything to do with it. I stay right away.

You better stay away. Facebook is dying anyway. It's all about advertising and short attention seeking videos like all the other social medias. No one posts anything anymore. Only thing I see is paid content. Money ruined the internet just like it's trying to ruin football. Forums like this are a remnant of the old internet. Btw lately I've been using an old Panasonic cassette radio from the 70's. I changed the broken rubber belts so the tape recorder works again. I keep my eyes open for C cassettes in flea markets. Maybe I'll start going to the library again too.

I love the old fashioned ways as well, i buy books where i can as opposed to digital storage. But modern technology has a place too. I agree with you about facebook its mostly padded out with fluff and stuff, but we should use it to meet our own ends. If you don't like what you see then scroll past it until something interests you. I came away from facebook years ago but went back when my father passed away for one specific reason then let my profile go dormant until a year or so ago. I wanted some more group interaction when i gave up work, I started with a builder's and tradesman's forum giving advice when i could. Then picked a couple of watch groups up, my facebook profile, is not my real  name, I partially made one up to remain anonymous when my father died...I wont go into why. If my profile got hacked it would not affect me personally.  Facebook for me....just gives me access to these groups and very little else, i don't get caught up in people's drama or the mundane parts of their life or bother watching the influencers . So I say to OH @oldhippy. .." Just use it as a tool "  come on OH you old bugger 🙂, we'd be lost without you, please join us and more will follow. Ask yourself ...do I want to wake up tomorrow morning and find that WRT has disappeared ?

Sorry but I  can't bring myself to join.  I realise it can be used as a  tool but for reasons I can't verbalise, I  have a  loathing of it.  I honestly don't know why.

A few members emailed me before, feel free to do the same, one and all.

Richard, I know it looks like I'm trying to influence people,  but facebook is not a big deal 🤔...maybe there is something I am not understanding.  Do you want to talk about it in private ?

Nothing to discuss in private, my hatred of Facebook is irrational, I just can't bring myself to join.

I can relate to that.

I've never joined facebook and run whatsapp on a separate (dedicated) device. The world isn't fair, rational and honest, so I don't see why I should be rational all the time.. 😀

Yes Facebook is interesting place. The only reason I even got Facebook was because there is some unique discussion groups strangely enough not related to watch repair that only seem to exist on Facebook. Then yes I do have a quantity of friends a very tiny quantity including one who is deceased which may explain why he never posts anymore. Versus other people I know that have hundreds of friends not the Facebook doesn't try it always shows me people that should be my friend for reasons I have no idea so I do not friend them.

Then when I go there trying to find what I'm looking for in other words the groups I joined with some of them not actually being groups or friends which makes things even more interesting to find. Somewhere I should really get just a nice list of the groups and then go to the individual group but currently it's giving me up listing of all the various posts in the various groups that I belong to with one of them being interesting maybe somebody can explain this to me?

So an update on this group was somebody who looks like Mark who I was under the impression had been abducted by aliens and apparently 17 hours ago maybe the aliens let him go? We really show it or somebody should leave a friendly note on the discussion group of when was the last time you came to visit us we feel left out on this group.

Then yes I've occasionally looked at the messages on the Facebook group and no I have problems with answering things because for one thing it does not like paragraphs Facebook is really designed for little tiny short messages and people are just using it as a group discussion which really is and what it's for was for something else first place at least it in my view it wasn't really set up to be a good group discussion platform.

The people at Sutcliffe Hansen talked to Mark recently. Apparently he’s on vacation relaxing on a beach somewhere.

Mean while he couldn't give a rats ass about what is going on here. That's loyalty for you. It's people like us that have got this forum to what it is today.

OH. @oldhippy Don't let it bother you anymore, it is just not worth the stress. You're a decent bloke and obviously you feel " shit on " , just as many of us do. Tbh I noticed this right from the start of my joining, I messaged Mark for a simple request of an answer to a question. I never received that reply and never got an answer... that was 3 years ago 🤨

On a beach in Fethiye  Turkey by any chance ? 🤔... I'd have to stroll up in my favourite budgie smugglers and have a word, then unleash the missus on him 😂

I don't think he has the guts to message me. If he did I would let him have it with both barrels. The sooner we get things sorted the better. He can get stuffed.

but facebook is not a big deal

It exists to make the owners money by advertising - and by selling users data, if you don't spend enough time going through all the privacy settings that allow them to do what they like, by default.

My biggest objection is that the have zero interest in maintaining groups, that the users put massive effort in to.

Someone I know runs a town/region group, which has more than 100,000 users at peak and so many views than the facebook vie counter limits.

Then someone reports something and facebook just delete the whole thing & all the content, so it has to start from scratch again and take another year or to to build back up to similar levels. Repeat ad nauseum.

(Apparently any phishing / scamming mob can pick any high usage facebook group, clone the heading artwork etc., and use a couple of fake accounts to post something obnoxious from one and immediately report it from another - instant nuke, then they use the same group name & stolen artwork etc. to post their garbage, which is initially seen by all the real group users looking for it by name).

I want nothing to do with Facebook.

I'm on Facebook but don't use it greatly.

At the moment this is just a means to an end to be able to contact people should the worst happen here.

Please as a regular posting member would you be willing to give your details to someone.

I'll look into spinning something up. It won't be immediate. I am very tight on bandwidth these days. Mods, I'll need your help. My daughter's spring break is this week, and I'm taking it with her. I've also got a 9mo, and wife ISN'T taking a week off work, so it'll have to be done during naps. I'll update here as there are things to update. This won't be a committee effort, but I'll be seeking input here from time to time from everyone else as well.

Hi Rob, what i mean is ,it doesn't have to negatively impact your life, only if you let it. The first time I joined Facebook I got fed up of listening to other peoples moans and groans etc. Now I only have 2 friends and that was more or less by accident.  Making all of your settings private makes a difference. I rarely post anything besides in the few groups I joined. If I thought Facebook was a pain to me...I wouldn't be part of it.

Do you have friends or relatives that use facebook OH that would join the group I've mentioned. Just so we can contact you in due course.

In what way Andy ?  I mean have you joined the facebook group , there is an Andy thats joined us , just checking that it's you.

Ok I need to mention any message containing an email on public or private is censored. They have to be wrote, photographed and added as a file. Then i can save them as a screenshot. But first and foremost if you wish to remain in contact...please write down the facebook group name " members of the lost watch forum " in case the forum disappears shortly.....just do that at the very least.

Yep I've done that before with another member Tom.  My time is limited on this, I'm away on holiday ...my birthday...the missus is already starting to kick off so i will have to disappear.

Cheers Andy...everyone is equal there...you wont be overstepping anything. If we get stuck on an issue...then majority will probably rule.

A couple of watch groups are the reason I haven't yet removed my profile. They are the best place to sell watches and I still have too many to sell 😄 Ebay and chrono24 take quite a big selling commission and I hate selling on ebay. You can't exclude USA from shipping locations because it's considered local shipping in ebay.com. Overseas shipping is expensive and many buyers don't understand it. And all the exporting customs document trouble. Easier and cheaper to sell locally face to face.

As of a couple of months ago, selling on ebay is free (at least for UK sellers). Which is great, BUT a recently they added "Buyer Protection" - a fee added on to the selling price (of 75p and 4% up to £300, 2% over £300). So the buyer pays a bit more.

If you sell using the "Global Shipping Programme" on ebay, then you pay local postage to a shipping address, and all customs forms, taxes, postage, and tracking are taken care of by ebay. Couldn't be easier.
