Dear All,

I have an ELGIN 8 Days movement, the mainspring is broken and cannot find the correct one.

The ELGIN movement number is 38416337 with a going barrel.

I found a similar size mainspring from the local supplier and riveted the end.

The  original mainspring has DB P end. The replacement I mainspring has the following dimensions: 5.50 x .26 x 720 x 21. The thickness is different to the original, it should be .14-.15 this is too tight in the barrel.

Can anyone advise where I could find an original mainspring for this, please?

Thank you

Thank you for your help. I called CasKer, I assume they have it but don't ship to the UK.

Are the ones on eBay in the states too expensive?

It is not about the cost, it is about the type needed. I know the movement number, but I cannot find the part number or type of the mainspring, do you know someone who could help to identify the mainspring? I know its dimensions.

I know the movement number,

actually you do not know the movement number that's part of the problem you know the serial number. armed with the serial number you can go to a pocket watch database at the link here

https://pocketwatchdatabase.com/search/result/elgin/38416337

then we get the grade number of 508. Sometimes on the pocket watch database on the left-hand side they will list the parts not always so if they don't list it I go to the source

http://www.elginwatchparts.com/

which then gives us this

then armed with this the easiest way would be just to go to your favorite search engine and say Elgin 22 size mainspring and see what comes up on the list like this or just go to eBay directly because that's the most likely source easiest source to find a mainspring. Then to get a link like this one this just happened to be the first one I'm sure there are others.

John/Andy!

Thank you so much for your help! I do appreciate it. I am learning watch repairing, and identifying parts is still hard. Thank you again!
