Please assist in helping me source anybody that sells cylinder balance staffs for baby French Carriage clocks. I require such for my clients clock. They are seemingly rare.

You do know cylinders come in three parts each end called a plug and the centerpiece. With the right cylinder stake you can tap the end plugs out.

That is right so what I mean is you might only need a plug.

There used to be assortments of cylinders and plugs (they're called "tampons"). I suppose back in the day, with time not being important, one could sort through and find something that might work, but the fit of the tampon to the cylinder is such a precision fit, that I imagine one would always have to do some lathe work to get it right.

 

I have always simply turned up a new plug, or drilled the tampon/plug in the cylinder and fitted a new pivot, which avoids having to get the right fit on the tampon and risk cracking the cylinder.

The problem is when the cylinder is broken in the middle.

And I know this is the case, as this question was asked in another forum.

OP, You need to measure very precise the diameter of the cylinder, the entire height needed and the height of the mouth from the bottom pivot tip in order to search for proper one. But, big cylinders as for platforms are so rare that I don't believe it is possible to source. I have made such cylinders for platforms several times, this is a specific work.
