picking up a mullered Diesel DZ 1718 'Rollcage' tonight, I've watched dozens of Youtube vids but can't suss if I'll need a gasket or 'glue' when fitting the glass.  I'm not just hoping for the answer, but tips on how I would find this info - ie, is there a parts list somewhere, or a 'blueprint'.

Thanks in advance

lovely, thanks.  Superglue do the job?

No, superglue stands a chance of melting the watch and lens.

You want to use G-S Hypo Cement or Jewellers Cement.

Edit

Should have added the irrespective of what was their before and depending on the size you could look at fitting an I-Ring & Crystal.

No, don't use superglue, it off gasses and fogs the crystal. The replacement may not need gluing but I don't know anything about the watch.

yes, this is where I'm at - 'sold as seen', I bought it as seen, no crystal or evidence of gasket, and so far, Fossil (who make Diesel) haven't responded...

The first place to start is can you measure the opening and see what size you need?

I can't find anything out, abut I-rings!  Only the Apple product that goes on your finger  🙂  I'll see if the right glass turns up and see what happens from there.  I have the correct cement, so I shall be carefully dabbing that on.

BUT.....I can only get the movement in and out through the front - the 'rollcage' element mean I can't remove the stem!  So watch this space, I have to try and straighten the hands, slide the movement in and onto the stem, then cement the glass.  It's my first genuine attempt at a repair, luckily the smashed up Diesel only cost a fiver

Once you fit the glass with glue some is more than likely going to squeeze out onto the dial.

I see what you mean about the stem but if it went in the it must come out somehow.

yup!  Got in touch with Fossil, they said it was a 39mm glass, so I ordered one (even though I'd measured it at nearer 39.5mm - but hey, they know best, I've never fitted one before).  Glass plops straight in and is loose enough enough that you can wobble it and hear it tapping the sides of the case as it moves...

It's just a few quid for another, but with the postage on top, that's a tenner down the bog  🙂

bit bewildered by the i-ring, perhaps I'll look on youtube with the word 'gasket'!   2.5mm thick glass, and to be honest not sure about 39.5mm.  Fossil advising the wrong size has disheartened me, cheesed  me off a bit, especially as the rest of the project isn't going well.  I have no idea of the history of the watch, other than it ws found smashed up (see opening post.  For some reason, the hands touch  the internal ring with the angled indices that goes under the glass, the hands were bent, tricky to straighten, the hour hand wobbles like it's loose (maybe it is!), and with a new battery, upon assembly it refuses to tick - intermittent working is a fail.

Did Fossil advise that thickness as that seems way too thick to me.

Can you post a photo how the one you've got looks when in place.

I've been bingeing vids on people replacing glass on Fossils, Diesels and even Kors (all Fossil products apparently), but not seen any gluing or gasketting...

I've contacted the seller on eBay, asking the thickness, and if it'll need glue or gasket.   Thank you Andy!

if I add the word 'glue' to my search criteria, I get a couple of 'glue the glass' results, but without that exrta word, not many suggest gluing

next issue!  What a learning curve...

It ticks for a couple of hours then stops. A quick tap starts it ticking for another couple of hours - knackered movement?  Hands turn freely when turning crown

    • That’s a nice idea, But i’m committed to providing this site as a gift to the watch repair community as my thank you for my incredible life i’ve had in this business. Ive done well and unless my financial circumstances change then i’m more than happy to foot the bill. If circumstances do change then be assured that I will make an appeal. For now, I’m comfortable with the way things are and I am extremely delighted to remove Google Ads from this site and to stop Patreon, it feels like a major step forward 🙂 Sorry, I missed your reply, I got blinded by another poster in this thread. Yes - I can confirm that I have always seen WRT as a not-for-profit website, and therefore - not a business as such. I’m lucky and have done well in my life due to a decision made in my teens to start a watch repairing apprenticeship which has sustained myself and my family for many years now. Consider this my small way of paying it forward. Ive been committed to keeping the site alive on a technical and financial level for over 10 years now and I have zero plans to change that. Thank you for your kind words by the way. And as for your wish - nobody can control what happens in life, if something happens to me I have things in place with my family but I’m just not comfortable talking about my personal business - I wish a certain person would respect that, but i’ve calmed down now - i’m only human 😄
    • Yes, exactly. I've seen a few different versions, but mine has the blue water symbol, not white.    I think it's Acrylic. The case is plastic so I would the is the lens would be too.
    • Hi there Josh, welcome to the forum.
    • From the same listing, the back side: I would guess that the back pops off rather than the front. You can see a little groove there where the caseback sits over the winding stem, rather than a case tube. Look for an indent or notch around the back. It might be possible to pry this off from almost anywhere on the back if it sits right against the rubber strap. The movement looks like it is from the Ronda RL family (015 or 115 or something? I forget which numbers have a calendar and which don't)
    • I'd expect a similar notch somewhere around the rear to pop that off.
