OK but that doesn't explain why the glass is so thick compared to others and the gasket for
a 39mm crystal would be 39.7mm or 39.8mm depending what height gasket you could use.

Not sure if you're still working on this but mine arrived this morning and to me it's just a 1mm that's glued.

I'll have a look at it further tonight.

Had nothing else to do so decided to have a quick look and the complete
assembly comes out of the cage giving you access to remove the stem.

So after being one of the hardest bezels to split and then one of the hardest crystals to remove the answer is it's a 39mm x 2.5mm crystal as advise by Fossil.

The good news for @Nickpan is you just need to press the crystal you've got into place.

Just a big push from the back?  Bezel off first I guess

well, thanks to Andy's pics it's all back together now, and ticking, poor old thing.  Some major gouge still there, but I didn't want to lose any more metal.  Cost me a fiver for the 'smashed into a brick wall' mod, plus glass, plus cheap black strap - gluing glass was a nightmare, please don't zoom into the photo

I didn't see this till now.

Just remove the back and it pushes out with bezel intact.

Why did you glue it? It's just a press fit as I said.

well, I pressed and fitted, as I've said, and it fell out again, even slightly rattling from side to side, causing me to wonder if it should have been 39.5mm.  So I spattered cement around like 4 year old after 2 slushys.

I wonder if the rubber seal had been damaged or come out of yours then.

My replacement lens comes tomorrow so will see how it fits.

So 39mm x 2.5mm and it pushed straight in.

So now back complete with a strap and another one for the gift cupboard.
