I will start by saying that I am no expert, just an amateur.

I have my Grandfather's watch, presented to him by British Rail for 45 years service.

It's a Smiths De Lux inside a Dennison gold case.

It won't wind up!

When I turn the winder, it just turns back again. There's no click or feel of a ratchet.

I assume it is the clicker that is broken. I wasn't aware of any bits rattling inside it.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a replacement?

When I do turn the winder, even just a couple of turns, it starts to tick with the balance wheel moving easily, so it is promising.

Here are some photographs to help identify the watch and the part that I 'think' is broken. There is a red square around the part where I think it is missing a bit. And a photo of the part on a tape measure.

I look forward to any help that anyone can offer.

Incidentally, I can't make sense of the hall mark - see close-up. It's a Birmingham one but I can't match the letter!

Thanks for that RichardHarris123.

I had found that one, and one the same on ebay.

It didn't look quite the same as mine. Mine is 'squarer' without the slope at the end, but it's possibly wirth trying one and seeing if it will fit, perhaps with a bit of modifying.

The OP's looks worn, but I can double check when I get home, I think I have some clicks in my Smiths stash.

Pretty sure it's the 12.15 so should fit.

👍It is ....it will.

Thats is the  correct click,  the cousins photo is poor,  the minute wheel bridge also has a broken jumper spring.

I didn't spot that, too busy answering the question.

Letter J which puts it at 1958

Thank you. The Hall Mark table I found didn't have any Js for any of the assay offices. I thought perhaps they didn't use them because of the similarity to I.  !! Found it on another table though.

Thank you for your advice.

Sorry, I am new to all of this. You mention the broken jumper spring. Should it be where I have put the red line on this photo?

Depends on the year cycle, sometimes J is used sometimes it isn't.

That would be the yoke spring, Richard has shown the complete bridge with jumper. Nice movements though, I like all the Smiths models even the pin lever GBs, they are like chalk and cheese.
