I would use horolene clock cleaner but be careful you most completely  cover the parts other wise it will leave a tide mark and you will never remove it, use in a well ventilated space. You need to get some steel clock pins, get a selection.

Nothing in Horology these days is cheap. It is very good for cleaning brass. You mention wire but I can tell you it is a steel pin, when replacing you need to bend it into an  S shape to prevent it from coming out. Another good tool to have is a pair of smooth jaw watchmakers pliers.

Couldn't have done it without the assistance provided here.

If anyone is in Sandbach there's a clock there that I have a certain responsibility for if they'd like a look . . .

The similarities are very strong.

Thats pretty cool.  I've worked on a few very similar clock movements from various public buildings.  I'd quite like a look if I'm in the area

How does one adjust the The balance cock?

I'm nervous about adjusting it as even with the barrel at is' lowest end I don't want the mechanism to slip if the teeth don't engage.

It seems important to get enough engagement to ensure that the pendulum receives enough of an impulse to provide a decent degree of sweep but too much and it seems to bind as the four toothed spigot is lifting the chime mechanism.

I haven't seen a write up of how this is to be adjusted, or perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places.

The clock ran for 6 days with simply the going train, but is stalling with the chimes, strike wheels and front face mechanisms added, althou' I haven't' added the chime & strike barrels as yet.

    • Different methods for different reasons and different levels of skill. The methods change as the skill improves, it's just a way of progression and evolving. The reverse is true, when a skill deteriorates, the ways change to compensate.
    • Desperately in need of some human interaction please 😅 schools off for Easter and I haven't left my house for four days. I'm busy sorting and partially stripping back to identify old movements for donor parts, but warm and cosy in the Watchroom. I've managed about 50 up to now since Monday with only one unidentified ( which I might put up for Cluedo later ), so slowly filling up the new donor draw.  Strange that 25% of them are BFG movements. Probably another 100 or so to go through. The Flume book I'm using is easier to navigate than the Bestfit, this one dates to 1972 and is laid out better than the older editions, as far as I know there are more recent editions published.
    • Didn't know shimming conforms to Swiss horolog standards, in watch repair, if its to  compensate for pivot wear, it actually is not a bad practice, for the following reasons.  1- No need to deform any part.  2- Substitutes restaffing balance wheel, thus no need to re-poise balance wheel, among other tasks to built a balance complete.   Which is why, I tend to recommend shimming specially to beginers.  Lets not forget,  to beginers, getting a non runner to tick and perhaps tok 🤩  is best encouragement.  Regs
    • Hello and welcome from Leeds, England.
    • Actually the last two were not so long ago, I was actually after the stakes and the Trupoise just happened to be there as a bonus. Just counted them, I have 4 and another similar one but better 🤦‍♂️. So yes they do come up for sale quite cheap sometimes if nobody is wanting to buy one at the time. Somewhat of an overreaction ! I have learnt a few things from Kalle ( generally not what to do lol ) , but he honestly does my head in . I might even have to demote him to the level of our new watch term- generously donated by John-  of  " Prior Idiot "  😅 This statement make you " The Man " today. I've had some pretty good finds at carboots inc. A Dirty Dozen, but a Trupoise puts you up there on tge leader board today 😅 And my attention to grammar and spelling is failing today , jist though Id mension thhat. 😅
