ronda 515 Swiss Army Watch late 80s early 90s

So this is my very first project I have decided to tackle and my first posting.  If I do anything incorrectly, please let me know and I shall correct it asap. So  i decided to fix some old watches i had sitting in a box.  I believe this watch is the very first watch I purchased myself, at the Victorinox store in the  Garden state mall NJ.  If I can fix it , i will donate  it to my church to help disadvantaged youth dress for interviews and find jobs.  The movement is a Ronda 515 1 jewel.

I need a crown and tube for this case.  The stem seems as it is intact.  The crown is required to put the stem in second position ,  allowing me to remove the stem.   I searched All the mechanical drawing, but i cant find the crown type. Is there a special tool required to remove the tube and is it complicated?

the crystal is cracked and heavily scratched. so I will need to replace it  How do I determine how to remove the crystal and what type of crystal is it, so I can try to find a replacement

Definitely will need a cleaning, so once i figure out best oil solution I will do that.

I am curious why the watch doesn't say Victorinox on it?

Welcome to the forum.

You don't need the crown to remove the stem as you can just pull it to the 2nd position to access the dimple.

Just grip the tube with a pair of pliers and pull it out. Measuring for a replacement could be a little more difficult for a beginner so maybe best just getting an assortment.

For the crown you'll need to measure the diameter of the recess where it sits, the outside diameter of the tube along with the thread size of the stem (think it's 0.9mm)

Need a closer look at where the crystal meets the case, it looks like what's called an I-Ring and should just push out from the back, preferable with a press.

You can then measure the diameter and thickness of the crystal to get a replacement.

Not sure what you mean about cleaning and oil solution?

Hello and welcome to the forum. As I recall the Ronda 515 is a replaceable  quartz movement , available from Cousins at approx £10 I have added the technical sheet for you.

Cousins don't have the correct movement variation for the OP.

Just realised that although the date is at 4, so is the crown, so Cousins do have the correct variation, it's just a matter of which one is needed H1, H2 or H6.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond, it is greatly appreciated.

I did not have a chance to check movement yet, ordered 371 batteries from the big AZN since i couldn't find them at  local stores around me.

It seems that the common thought here is to replace the whole movement.  I am in the states so once again AZN has one for $21 bucks.  I did not search for a cheaper one yet.  Are replacing the whole movement so as to use the crown that comes with the new movement.  it is an ugly brown

@AndyGSi  oil solution  i was speaking about was finding a sub $100 sample pack with high customer reviews.

Still not sure what you mean about the oil as this is only used to lubricate old movements.

If you're getting a replacement movement then as mentioned above there are variations of the Ronda 515 so you need to make sure you get the correct one.

The crown that comes with the movement would be plastic and no good to use.

@andygsi  initial plan was to work with existing movement as a learning session. Since the common thought was replacing unit i will do that.  I think i will keep old movement and learn with it and buy a new one for the watch

Hi. Replacing the movement is the easiest option, if that’s the way you go then by all means utilise the old one for practice. You can get an assortment of crowns via Amz or Cousins which ever you find the most convenient

I'd check first if the movement is working then just leave it alone.

If it does need a new movement then you'd be able to get it with a black crown and replacement
lens from here in the UK including delivery for not much different than the $21.

Possibly cheaper from US but I'm not up on prices or who deals with the public over their.

Update:  i finally got the battery and  the movement works.  not crazy   about the hands alignment but the clock is working and just waiting to see if the date changes on its own.

Have you got any tools to remove and replace the hands if you're not happy with them?

Now it's just the lens, tube and crown.

I mean i dont know if I am being picky about the alignment . You are correct lens tube and crown  and i think that is what i will put my focus on now.  I do believe the Ronda stem part number is 4011473, so hoping tonight i can search for a crown that will fit this stem with a tap of 10

Not sure where you've got that stem part number from but the correct number is 3000.164 for 20mm long and 3000.171 for 32mm long.

Also the TAP 10 is the old form of measurements so you'll be looking for a 0.9mm crown.

Just had a look at your photos and think you'll be OK with the existing stem if you get a crown with a long tube.

@AndyGSi  The part number I got was from here https://www.esslinger.com/genuine-harley-ronda-replacement-watch-stems/.   But i will go with your suggestion ,  I will keep original  stem and replace the exiting tube  and get the black crown.  I do appreciate all the advice.

Looks like there are some suppliers that use the 401-1473 but there's no reference to this in any Ronda Literature.
