Absolutely! I'm planning to post a full walk-through when I service it in January (hopefully).

I already know/assume that it has a loose cannon pinion (shout out to @SiZi) and running at pretty low amplitude (220°, dial up, fully wound).

PS: If anyone has any service manuals or oiling chart, please share 😀

The came as part of a job lot I'd just got from eBay and was surprised to see an actual auto movement inside.

Now for a bit of digging to see what movement it is and add to my stock for a potential future project.

One of those handy "racing calendars" with a one tenth sec 24 hour indicator.

Illegal to sell even if it's stated that it is not genuine.

Already stripped for parts.

Appears to be a YF? Dandong? movement.

Sorry @AndyGSi, I  wasn't suggesting that you would try and sell it. I was just pointing out that the seller broke the law and probably didn't realise.

No problem, I've had many Rolex, Tag and even Seiko as fakes and expect most of the time the seller is unaware of what they're selling.

Theres been a few occasions though when I've been bidding on lots where the seller has placed an obvious
fake Rolex dead centre in the pile of watches and they've sold for a lot more than they should have.

Lots of other things have kept me away from watches for a while, but I've been keeping one eye out for a bowtie case for one of my many, many 218 movements I've got kicking around, and this one came up at a price I couldn't pass up.

Just arrived today. M6 date code, but I'm pretty sure the 218 wasn't released until 1967 so I'm not sure what I'll find inside. We'll find out together!

Seeing as how the 214 won't fit in the case more than likely you'll find the 218 in the case as there would be nothing else for them that officially put in their. As I'm pretty sure the other ones all came after.

True, I just meant what kind of shape it'd be in. Looks pretty nice. I was wondering if maybe the caseback was taken from a different watch, but it is a 1966 Accutron caseback.

Interesting!

Edit to note of course digging a little further, I see 218s being manufactured as early as 1965.

Last year or so, somebody found me and asked for help.  May have been on this forum.  They had an "accutron" that had been "modified."  He wanted it returned to its former glory.  Well, it was an accutron case, accutron dial, with an automatic wind movement inside!!  Yes, it is true.  The dial feet had been removed and glued on to the autowind movement with those dial dots.  Anyway, I rebuilt it for him.

So, you never know what is inside!!

Definitely looks beautiful!

How much did you pay?

If it makes you feel better, I saw someone selling one such boxes with all empty glass tubes - so no watchmaking parts at all.... for 50 bucks.

Got the lot for just under £20.00 including postage then found these on Etsy.

Took a punt on a 'broken' 7005-8160 off a terribly photographed eBay auction in the hope that the dial was OK... Well the dial is lovely, it works and (for now) I've put the old crystal in from it's 7025-8099 cousin. I'm very pleased!

Well that is a result:

Now to decide what to do with it - it's my brother's birth year, hmmm...

Edit: easy decision - my bro doesn't want it 'because of his apple watch' the heathen!

You can remind him of that every six months when Apple Corp. takes yet another dip into his wallet for the next wizbang version.

On this same topic, someone asked me to try to fix her watch today. It was a genuine fit bit, and was showing the wrong time.

What can you not actually set on the watch?

You guessed it... you can't actually set the time.

You need the App.

... and a suitable phone to run the app

... and most important of all, you need the app account, and the app password.

Did she have the phone and know all of these... of course she did. However the app complained that she needed to change her password, and when we did that, it complained that changing the password had failed, no matter what we changed it to.

In fairness, there are some things you *CAN* set in the "Settings" widget of the watch.

The brightness for example, you can make the display much dimmer.

And the "theme". You can change the way it displays the wrong time. You can't however, actually set the time.

So if you don't want to see what a bad decision you made by purchasing a "smart" watch, I guess you simply set the brightness so low you aren't reminded that it doesn't actually tell the correct time. Ever. Its not even correct twice a day. It is always absolutely correctly at the wrong time 24hrs per day. 🙄

I certainly will! In fairness, I'm glad he said he wouldn't really find himself giving it the wear it deserves as these things should be worn imo

Even one or two evenings out per year is enough to exercise a fine restoration piece. Doesn't have to be a daily driver.

I agree, though I'm not sure you're on about the same kind of thing as that (lovely) old Seiko I offered him.

Good for me though - I'm going to sell a couple of my beater type daily wearers and use this instead... I'll keep it warm for him!
