I have read the forum rules regarding sales ads - I fully respect them. As many a collector I guess, I buy watches I am initially drawn to, keep most :) - and occasionally sell on a few - in the latter regard, is it in order on this forum to inform members of the posting of a watch sale on an auction site?

Hi - I regret to say that sales of any kind are not permitted on the forum - which includes notes of or postings about eBay sales as well.

@WillFly  Great, just great....I was planning on listing hundreds here today;P  @presto0906  Welcome!  To sell, try Ebay, Etsy, Chrono24 and I think watchuseek has a section for sales. (don't quote me on the watchuseek thing, lol)

OK no bother - but why not a 'sales corner' sub-forum before one resorts to eBay - I would always prefer to make forum peeps aware of what might be available for love rather than profit ! 

Also I hope this will be a friendly forum - I have done quite a few (hot) work repairs on PCB, SMC's - and mechanical cameras over the years - so I am well used to precision loupe work. Watch bits are these days huge in comparison to SMCs - hence my attraction at my age:)

This was a decision made by Mark who started the forum, a decision that was unanimously backed by the moderators after much discussion.

Regarding your question about it being a friendly forum; you will be hard pushed to find a more friendly and helpful forum, just have a read of replies to some of the introduction threads for confirmation.

Hi presto. Please be assured that a lot of thought went into this decision. But we decided not to have a sales/classifieds section. We have very good reasons that I will not go into but please be assured the decision was made for the good of this community :)

My take on it, this is a selfless and friendly forum not tarnished with interests of promoting or taking sides in activities related to personal business, gain and/or money. That's why ebay and others exist.

We are just sharing knowledge and helping one another, each in their own capacity...and yes, there is a thin line to the sales subject sometimes. But, for crying out loud man, everything is not money and sales! We just want to chill and talk about our passion: watches, and do it among friends. And that is a good reason among many not to have sales, or a section dedicated to that, in the forum. Like all decisions, we had to draw a line an weight the pros and cons and believe me, the pros outweighed the cons.

In any case, enjoy and be welcome.

There are other places to buy and sell watches - like when my friend bought 'a real Rolex' from a guy displaying watches on a beach blanket in Jamaica.

Presto, I'm sure your intentions are honourable but this is now that kind of forum; however, such forums do exist. Good luck.

Free sites work good for me, like kijiji and it's main competitor, which has different names depending on the country. And why not, craigslist - actually I've to try it yet.

I belong to a collectors' club and they are always wheeling and dealing. Frankly, it kind of annoys me because it used to be a place to learn about watches not hock them.

      You're probably not going to see a dramatic change but you should probably figure out what the lift angle is as it probably is not 52°

      In tandem with my last post regarding the removal of Google Adsense on this website - I have also decided to fully self fund this site as a gift to the watch repair community of which I’ve been a member of, and have benefited from since being extremely lucky to gain an apprenticeship back in the late 80s.    Well, that means that I have also closed down my Patreon account - or, to be clear, stopped all future transactions on my Patreon account and this is with immediate and permanent effect.    not to mention, but I will, I really really do appreciate the contribution all my patreon and PayPal supporters have provided over the years, you guys have been absolutely awesome and helped to keep this forum alive and available for those who might not be able to afford the payments.    again, from the bottom of my heart thank you.

      My pleasure. I would rather pay more than have those annoying ads ruin this site. They were a terrible idea and something I never even saw much, but I was on my iPad yesterday testing a security update for the forum software and it was impossible. I decided then - they had to go!!! Also, co-incided with this, for those who are paying for pattern in order to help fund this site - I’ve just disabled patreon. Future monthly payments will not be taken.  PayPal is a little more complicated. I will try to work out how to cancel the few subscriptions but if you are a PayPal donator then please feel free to cancel the monthly sub.  I will, however thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping to contribute to this site financially - it means a lot. But going forward, I’m funding it personally from my pocket and that’s the end of it 😄

      Thank you Mark it definitely makes the site looked much nicer. Although I didn't mind the ads as long as it helped to pay for the messageboard but sometimes when you had the feeling that there were more ads than message board yes it was a little annoying. Thank you
