Open it up and have and if there is a battery inside be sure it did not leak.  If it did leak you will have to take out the movment and inspect furhter. If the battery did not leak you can pop in a new 303/357 Eveready battery.   Even if it does take off running you still have to be sure to lurciate the movment.

Rare? no....

Hi Mo, due to my  recent interest in Timex electrics I have been acquiring a few spares. I picked up these NOS movements from a guy in Poland....

and have now got this batch of assorted electric/electronicwatches coming from the US, to 'play' with....

snASPLx.jpg

As an extension to my recent interest and initially because I didn't know what I was buying:blink: (I was hoping to find one of the true quartz/mechanicals),  I have also got a few early 'Q' quartz watches.

One of them being a M56 jump minute hand one, which had me fooled for a bit, (and I suspect also the ebay seller), as it showed no obvious signs of activity with a new battery, but magically gives one measurable electronic pulse every 60 seconds and advances the minute hand forward one minute......

However I have got three or four large 'Q' first generation quartz ones, now up and running...

This one, which I got from Bulgaria having a German day wheel...

dd6JNKC.jpg

I have identified  the non day/date version of these as M135 and assume that the date version is M136 and the day/date one M137?

This is the movement of the one above, with the black dial...

I can't find any technical or catalogue information at all on these and have one M135 (55311 135 81) that I would like to remove from the case,(I need to get at the back of the circuit block to clean up and hopefully get it oscillating again), but can't, for the life of me, work out how to release the stem:growl:..

Have you got any helpful information Mo, technical or catalogue?

notice the thin metal part in the yellow circle.  It is a hairclip that holds the stem in place.  Just lift it up with flat tipped screw driver. Be careful to not use to much 'lift' as it will take flight. :)

Cheers Mo, I've been pushing it, never thought to lift it:unsure:.....logical when you think about it, the simplest solution, so Timex:lol:. Have you got any catalogue information on these?

no I don't have any catalogue information on these.  I have rebuilt them before just for the fun of it.

I know what you mean Mo, it's just fun resurrecting something that has been given up on and will probably end up in landfill if you don't give it a new lease of life:thumbsu:

My current crop of Timex 'Q' quartz watches, ready to be worn again... The jump minute hand one being in the middle. Apologies for the reflections in the dials, I have obviously made too good a job of refinishing the crystals:D

Hello:

I'm new to this site....I read the above on stem removal from a Timex Electric.......I discovered the clip after quite a while. I am now working on a Timex Dynabeat which has a different movement .....  but I am not seeing what has to be moved or removed in order to remove the stem. Can anyone tell me the steps to removing the stem? Any help would be appreciated..........possibly with pics or vidio

                   Thanks    Dan  /  childhoodantique

Hi Mo, I have been following your replies to questions about Timex and you are a god when it comes to this topic. I have an electric with the backset and it runs for only a few minutes. The most I ever got from it was 15 minutes and then it just stops. Listening to the movement sounds like the hacking mechanism is engaging. I ran the movement outside of the case and she worked flawlessly for two days. To do this I gently pushed the hacking pin out of the way and balanced a battery enough to get it going. Once that was successful I added the dial and hands to see if there was any change and it still operated fine. Then I did a full assembly and the problem appeared. Of course doing the assembly I put the hacking pin back to it's respective setting. While reading through forums on Timex a hacking issue seems to come up as a regular problem. Sorry for the long question, but any ideas where I might be going wrong. The watch is going to be apart of my collection and I just love the design and Timex as a whole. Thank you for reading.

Very nice, I like old Timexii, I have a Saga with the same crown at the rear, I was told that Saga is a sub brand of Timex 👍

It's a non runner by the way!

I haven't heard of Saga. I'll have to go Google it.

But some of the early Timex Electrics were made by a German company. I think the name was Laco or something like that.

It may have a Timex M41 movement.

"The raw and undecorated movement was initially made at the Laco/Durowe factories in Germany, later the production was moved to Taiwan."

More info on Timex movements here ->

The watch says it was assembled in France. Saga and Kelton branded Timex watches were often assembled there.

    • HWGIKE#57 Valex FEF 190 15 jewels Swiss lever full service and repair This one was waiting for a balance staff replacement in my cabinet parts and case cleaned up with a new balance staff and a 4th wheel as the original 4th wheel had a broken pivot for the off center second hand. I never attempted a balance staff replacement before however I received a Bergeon Molfres (i was hunting it for about 2 years) and with the help of it I managed to remove the old staff and riveted the new one in. It also received a new MS, crystal and the hole for the MS arbor was also tightened. With the new MS now it has an acceptable performance meaning that the amplitude goes up to 280 fully wound, has an acceptable beat error and I have the two nice lines but only dial up, dial down is not as nice and I could not figure out as why. I have the two lines but the amplitude is dropping to around 230 and the lines are a bit hairy. Both dial up and dial down the lines just go up and down without seemingly any pattern. I cleaned the movement two times, and then a 3rd time pegged out the main plate and train bridge holes but made no change. Both the HS collet and the roller table was too lose on the new staff... I did not count how many times I took the balance cock off to sort out the HS collet, the roller table and the beat error, somebody before me also shortened the HS by pushing it out a bit and it seems every time somebody is messing with the end of the HS the protruding bit is most of the time twisted bent etc. This one was probably one of the most challenging repair and service. I might take the new MS out and clean it lubricate it as I just pushed the new one in to the barrel from the retaining ring. Plus started to re-read the theory of the escapement and how to analyse the graph on the timing machine: Greiner Chronografic Record manual. I am also thinking to put the watch on a 24 hour long run with the eTimer SW it once helped me to figure out what was wrong with a watch. There is an interesting part of the Greiner record manual talking about the pallets and the end shake of the balance and pallet staff. Maybe this is my issue? Who could that possibly identify? After a few years now I am still without a clue how could watchmakers make parts I can only see with my microscope or how could/can they carry out complicated services impossible to do.. real magic..... .... ..... before I sent this post while the pics were uploading I had an idea, i was browsing the possible outcomes on the timing machine I had one for magnetism..... so I demagnetized the movement and it is not hairy now.... two really nice lines 0.2 ms beat error still a bit wavy, but a lot lot better..... argh....
    • Hi there, welcome here.
    • yes the advertising revenue should generate money. The question is how much money? Then as far as the cost of the website goes that's relatively easy to determine? all you would have to do to grasp costs and profitability would be to go to the link below and you can actually get a website for free try it out for free I believe you get no advertising initially. They also talk about that they'll help you out they have marketing tools and some sort of paid subscription or something. So I guess were shopping for a whatever just ask them what would a maybe could use this one as an example in other words it's going to look basically identical to this is going to have advertising a paid subscriptions what's it going to cost? After all they want to sell or give us a message board like this they should bill answer the questions as they're the people who did the software for this. Yes they really said you can have a free discussion group at least to start. https://invisioncommunity.com/ I was curious about the monthly supporter thing where exactly do we find that on this message board? A quick search I'm not finding it so obviously I'm not looking in the right place?
    • Help me out here, but with all the advertising on this site (which I don't mind) wouldn't it pay for itself or even make money for the owner ???
