That is an interesting version of a pin pallet movement.

I don't seem to have any photos of this movement disassembled. Counting them up in my head, I can't actually come out with 21 jewels. I am only getting 18 or 19 if the impulse pin is a jewel (I don't think it is). The pin pallet jewels don't help all that much, since the escape wheel is still just as roughly stamped. But yes, interesting and weird. I have a couple of them.

I couldn't help myself. I had to wear the 1972 Timex today. The 1970s style Police approve of the red band, but I doubt if anybody else does. Now where did I put my bell bottoms and platform soles?

Please stop swearing, we don't want any mention of bell bottoms and platforms on here.  Hehe.

Seiko 9983-8039 Twin Quartz

Finally got it running to spec across all temperatures+-5 Seconds per Year.

Treated it to a new dial and crystal that I had been searching for for over 8 months. A single dial finally turned up on Cousins and I pounced on it along with the sapphire crystal.

The equivalent JDM 'Superior Quartz' model apparently cost as much as a Toyota Corolla back in 1979. Cost my uncle £500 back then and that was a lot, more than a Rolex back then.

Also did a bit of work on the case and bezel to bring it back a bit as it had had a really rough life.

My granddaughter is at our house so I'm wearing these.  Wasn't allowed to set the time, she's very bossy.

A recently cleaned up Swatch Irony "Big Feature" Steel YGS737 gets a fresh cell and an airing today.

This was one of several in a job lot of spares or repair Swatches I picked up ages ago.

The case still needs a little work, and it is on a band borrowed from a different Irony, but I have a replacement band on order and I hope to get a chance to polish the case this evening.

A few of my favorites. Mostly wear the 1016. Still haven't landed on a dive watch. I ended up selling the seamaster as it was too thick. I like my explorer 2 build, but the hands weren't quite right so I have a few sets coming. I might have to pick up an explorer 2 in the future. Secondhand markets are coming down pretty well.

Just picked this up from antique store for £40. Pretty sure it is a Revue watch. Possibly WW2.

Bargain Steve thats a Revue 57 ATP. Dial and case look in fair nick  should be closer to £250-300.

All looks original, dial and case, is it a stainless case ? bonus if it is.  I like them for their unusual crown waist . Very nice.

All stainless steel case and does look all original including the nice crown. I was shocked at the price as I had to ask as it was on a sticker on the back. Weird thing is that the stall next to this one had some nice Seiko chronographs all priced at around the £500 mark. It did stop running on the way home and looks terrible on the timegrapher. I am sure I can do a good job on it though.

Todays watch,  My Breitling Aviator 8 a very sentimental watch for me as it was a gift from my Father, and one I wish I could wear more often!

Does it have a quick date set to jump over to the 1st?

1966 Timex field watch 1158 2466, 30.5mm just got cased with a new crystal today. This m24 movement had all sorts of problems revealing themselves each time I solved one. Bent wheels, bent fork slot, bent pallet pins, somehow the lower balance v-conic pivot getting pushed out of its friction fit hole (I never gave these any thought before as to their installation on the plate). Luckily I have a sackful of Timex spares and all the parts are interchangeable.

I was glad to get this around $20 since they're not all that common.

...A Hamilton 940 just finished for a friend. He was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and closing in on 80 years old. This was his father's watch in Kentucky USA. No charge for military but I may try and weasel some KY bourbon out of him...

Flabby before it was missing the hour hand and the story is the brother opened it up and broke it- I'm certain his brother tells the EXACT same story if you know what I mean. Hands for these are around so hour hand no problem but it also had a broken spring what holds the setting lever open. Most of them broke long ago and spares are nowhere available- keep 'em if you have them! Otherwise the movement was in good condition, just dirty and a few service marks. Lots of watchmaker runes carved into the backs on this one. It has the unusual 'motor barrel' so a little more fiddly to deal with the spring but it didn't take me too long to wind it back in...

I swoon over fine old Hamiltons. Well done! I am in the last stages of a 992 restoration as a gift, about to start polishing and rebluing the hands. I will probably start immediately again on one for myself.

    • Looks like glass with that bevel edge.
    • Update: The demagnetization only helped temporarily, maybe it pulled the wheels into a position where they liked each other. I have to adjust the sub second hand as it is a bit angled upwards and catching the minute hand stopping the whole movement but before this happened there were some wild deviations. HWGIKE#58 Alarm clock, cooked in hot cleaning fluid and oiled gently. This is a movement so I count it. 🙂 A while ago it tried to fly away one day, it was on my windows sill, we had strong wind the curtain flew like a flag and doing so encouraged my clock to do the same...  went out and ended up on the roof above the entrance door, its door in pieces but the clock itself suffered no damage otherwise. The original glass was already broken when I received it I still have the bottom part in two pieces. The new "glass" is acrylic. It also had a paper in the back in the case inside but it disintegrated, I still have a little bit of  piece of that too.     HWGIKE#59 Durowe 870 / Times M84 This particular instance is a D870, when I saw its worn out contact pin I thought that it must be a design flaw, and here we go: https://17jewels.info/movements/d/durowe/durowe-870/ An incredible movement again where the balance wheel drives the train and has two magnets one for the balance wheel/coil and one for the pallet. The magnet for the pallet is basically the "draw" one direction. The coil is about 1.8kOhm and one end is in contact with the main plate and the other end is soldered to a contact pin which is insulated by the means of putting it into a jewel and this contact pin is rubbing against a wire getting the energy/impulse as it is passing. Behind the contact pin there is an "impulse jewel" not sure why is it there... the wire seems to hit the impulse jewel first then the contact pin but maybe it is there only for insulation purposes? I was almost certain that the screw holding down the battery - (minus) clamp had no insulation washer.. i only noticed the green stuff around it coming from battery leakage... anyway the + and - had a shortcut which took me a while to realize.. had to fabricate one insulating washer on my own. The jewel settings were dirty but not it is all cleaned and oiled. The contact pin might work for a while but I am sure it has a short life. It is a front loader the whole thing is held together by the case so it is not possible to regulate it without putting it all together and taking the movement out of the case again, very inconvenient. A wonderful movement but not made for eternity only for the consumer market.
    • Is it a crystal or an acrylic and just foggy with age?
    • The point I missed to make !   is ; moisture in the movement is the main problem, it can ruin  electronic components.
